Around 500? Historian of the Eastern Roman Empire. Greek name Prokopios. Born in Caesarea, Palestine, he studied rhetoric and law, and in 527 became legal adviser to General Belisarius, accompanying him in the Persian campaign (527-531), the African campaign (533-536), and the Italian campaign (536-540). By 542 he had returned to Constantinople, where he probably continued his official career while also writing. His later years and the year of his death are unknown.
