Altan Khan (Chief of the Khotgoyt Tribe)

...17th century Khotgoit chieftain of northwestern Mongolia. Altyn Khan is the Russian name for him, but his correct name is Altan Khan (Golden Khan). The first Khan, Shoroi Ubashi-Hongtaiji (died 1623), based his base on the shores of Lake Uvs-Nur and was the first Mongol prince to establish diplomatic relations with Russia.
