A city in the northeastern part of Pakistan, in the Punjab province. Formerly known as Lyallpur or Lyallpur. A commercial centre and a centre for cotton. It also has industries in textiles, medicines and textile machinery. Founded in 1895. It has an agricultural university (founded in 1909). Population: 3,231,000 (2012).
