Apprenticeship law - Toteiho
Social policy legislation enacted in England in 1563 during the reign of Elizabeth I. At the time, the increasing enclosure of rural areas led to an influx of peasants being driven off their land, and the collapse of the Antwerp market caused a serious downturn in the wool industry. To deal with this social situation, the government attempted to avoid chaos by stipulating through this act the stability of employment for craftsmen and apprentices, and the determination of maximum wages by magistrates, but ultimately responded to the social unrest by establishing a system of poor relief through the Poor Law of 1601.
