Wada Koremasa

Year of birth: Year of birth unknown. Military commander in the Warring States period. Iga no Kami. Posthumous name: Muneyoshi. Son of Munetatsu. He initially served Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiteru, and after Yoshiteru's death, he protected Yoshiaki's younger brother and became his vassal. He was also highly valued by Oda Nobunaga, and in 1568 he became the lord of Takatsuki Castle in Settsu (Takatsuki City, Osaka Prefecture). In October of the same year, he was ordered by Nobunaga to attack various castles in Yamato, aiding Matsunaga Hisahide along with Hosokawa (Nagaoka) Fujitaka and Sakuma Nobumori. Yoshiaki asked him to make peace with Itami Tadachika and Ikeda Katsumasa, and he became one of the three guardians of Settsu. In January of the following year, the Miyoshi Triumvirate attacked Yoshiaki while he was encamped at Honkokuji Temple in Kyoto, and he repelled them. In August of 1571, he fought with Ikeda Tomomasa in Koriyama, Settsu (Ibaraki City) and was killed in battle. He was buried at Joganji Temple in Azuchi, Omi Province. He converted to Christianity and was said to have been a powerful protector in the Kinki region.

戦国時代の武将。伊賀守。法名宗意。宗立の子。はじめ将軍足利義輝に仕え,義輝滅亡後はその弟義昭を庇護して臣となった。織田信長にも重用され,永禄11(1568)年,摂津高槻城(大阪府高槻市)城主。同年10月,信長の命で細川(長岡)藤孝,佐久間信盛と共に,松永久秀を助けて大和の諸城を攻めた。義昭に伊丹忠親,池田勝正と和するように求められ,摂津3守護のひとりとなる。翌年1月,三好三人衆が京都本圀寺在陣中の義昭を攻撃すると,これを撃退。元亀2(1571)年8月,池田知正と摂津郡山(茨木市)に戦って討死した。葬地は近江安土の浄厳寺。キリスト教に帰依し,近畿地方での有力な保護者であったという。
