A city in western Kanagawa Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1972. It occupies the northeastern foot of the Hakone outer rim and the alluvial plains of the Kari River. The foot of the mountain is rich in groundwater, and since a film factory was established here in the early Showa period, related factories have been established and housing has developed there. Cultivation of mandarin oranges, kiwis, and flowers (persimmons) is thriving. Saijoji Temple is located on the mountainside of Myojin-ga-take in the south.
