A city in the southern part of Ishikawa Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1940. It faces the Sea of Japan and occupies the southern part of the Kanazawa Plain and the mountainous area of the Kakehashi River basin. The city center developed as a castle town after the castle was built by Nagato Wakabayashi, the leader of the Ikko Ikki uprising, in 1576, and as a key point on the Hokuriku Kaido road. Ataka Barrier was built at the mouth of the Kakehashi River. Since the early Edo period, the city has been known for its silk fabric Komatsu Rinzu, and the silk and rayon textile industry is still thriving. It also has the character of a corporate castle town of Komatsu Ltd. (now Komatsu), a world-famous bulldozer manufacturer, and general machinery manufacturing accounts for about 50% of the city's manufacturing shipments (2003). Kutani ware is a specialty of the city. It also produces a lot of rice, rush grass, tea, and vegetables. It is served by the Hokuriku Main Line and the Hokuriku Expressway, and is home to Komatsu Airport, Awazu Onsen, and Natadera Temple in Nata. ^371.05km2 . 108,433 people (2010).

石川県南部の市。1940年市制。日本海に面し，金沢平野南部と梯(かけはし)川流域の山地を占める。中心市街は1576年一向一揆の首領若林長門の築城後城下町，北陸街道の要衝として発達，梯川河口には安宅関が設けられた。江戸初期から絹織物の小松綸子(りんず)で知られ，現在も絹・人絹織物工業が盛ん。また世界的なブルドーザーメーカーの小松製作所（現コマツ）の企業城下町的性格をもち，一般機器工業が市の製造品出荷額の約５割（2003）を占めている。九谷焼を特産。米，イグサ，茶，野菜の産も多い。北陸本線，北陸自動車道が通じ，小松空港，粟津温泉，那谷(なた)の那谷寺などがある。371.05km²。10万8433人（2010）。
