Lambert Lombard

Flemish painter and architect. Born in Liège. Studied under Gossaert, and served the Archbishop of Liège in 1532. After traveling to Germany, the Netherlands, and other places, he accompanied Cardinal Polus to Rome in 1538-39, where he studied ancient Roman ruins, contemporary art theory, and classical literature. Later, he used his knowledge to produce various cartoons (cartoons) for the print shop of H. Koch in Antwerp. He corresponded with Vasari, providing him with information on Dutch artists for his Lives of the Artists.

フランドルの画家，建築家。リエージュ生れ。ホッサールトに学び，1532年リエージュ大司教に仕える。ドイツ，ネーデルラントなどを旅行した後，38‐39年ポルス枢機卿の伴をしてローマを訪れ，古代ローマの遺跡，同時代の美術理論，古典文学を学ぶ。後にそれらの教養を生かしてアントウェルペンのH.コック版画店のために種々の下絵(カルトン)を制作。バザーリと文通し，彼の《芸術家列伝》のためにネーデルラントの芸術家についての情報を提供した。
