An office under the Ritsuryo system belonging to the Ministry of Civil Affairs. The Japanese reading was "Kazo-ur-tsukasa" (Kazo-ur-tsukasa), later "Kazue-no-tsukasa" (Numbers and Figures and Figures and Figures and Figures and Figures). Its duties included counting payments in kind such as cho and yō (taxes and other taxes), planning and allocating budgets, and auditing expenditures. It was an important and busy office, with one each of kami (head), suke (assistant), daijō (major), shojō (major), daisakan (major), shojō (major), two sanshi (major), six shisō (historians), and others. 民部省所属の令制官司。和訓は〈かぞうるつかさ〉のち〈かずえのつかさ〉。職掌は調・庸など現物で納める物の計納,予算の立案・配分,支出の監査など。重要かつ繁忙な官司で,職員は頭(かみ)・助(すけ)・大允(だいじょう)・少允・大属(だいさかん)・少属各1人,算師2人,史生(ししょう)6人ほか。708年史生を10人に,790年少允・少属を各2人に,841年(あるいは843年)寮掌2人を新設など。頭は大外記(だいげき)・大夫史(たいふのし)・諸道博士を任じ,頭・助のいずれかは算博士を兼任した。→大宝律令/養老律令
