London Stock Exchange

London Stock Exchange
The largest stock exchange in the UK, located in the City, the heart of London. It is one of the three largest stock exchanges in the world, along with the New York Stock Exchange and the Tokyo Stock Exchange. In the UK, the birthplace of capitalism, stock trading became more active from the late 17th century to the early 18th century, and professional securities traders began to appear, and the City coffee house, Jonathan's, became their hangout spot. The place became a frequent place for stock trading and information exchange, and in 1773 it was renamed a stock exchange, which is said to be its origin. The current London Stock Exchange was officially launched in 1802 when the building was completed. Although the trading volume was overtaken by the United States in the 20th century, it still has the largest number of listed stocks in the world, and is characterized by its presence in countries all over the world. In the past, all members were individuals, and traditional trading such as the jobber-broker system was emphasized, but in 1986 the Thatcher administration's Big Bang policy opened up the market and liberalized trading, leading to the entry of major capital and the reactivation of the London market. As EU integration progressed, the alliance between the London Stock Exchange and the Deutsche Börse in Frankfurt, announced in 1999, drew attention as a phenomenon symbolizing the revival of stock exchanges. After that, under the Blair administration, which promoted globalization in cooperation with the United States, the London Stock Exchange occupied a central position in the world economy, but was hit hard by the financial crisis that originated in the United States and the global recession in 2008, and suffered a major crash in stock prices.
