Obi

This is the central area of ​​Nichinan City in southern Miyazaki Prefecture. Former Obi Town. It was a castle town of the Ito clan of Obi Domain with a stipend of 51,000 koku. Obi Castle is a flatland castle located at the end of a hill where the Sakatani River, a tributary of the Hiroto River, makes a large bend to the south. The castle town is well preserved today as it was designated an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in 1977 (Showa 52). The designated type of samurai residence is the second largest in size after Hagi City in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Representative buildings include the former domain school, Shintokudo, and the domain lord's private residence, Yoshokan. It was the birthplace of Meiji-era diplomat Komura Jutaro, and the Komura Memorial Museum is located here.

宮崎県南部、日南市(にちなんし)の中心地区。旧飫肥町。飫肥藩伊東氏5万1000石の城下町。飫肥城は、広渡(ひろと)川の支流、酒谷(さかたに)川が大きく南に屈曲した丘陵の末端に位置する平山城(ひらやまじろ)である。城下町は、江戸時代の武家屋敷が今日でもよく保存され、1977年（昭和52）重要伝統的建造物群保存地区の指定を受けた。指定種別は武家屋敷で、その規模は山口県萩(はぎ)市に次ぐ。代表的建造物に旧藩校振徳堂(しんとくどう)、藩主私邸予章館(よしょうかん)などがある。明治の外交官小村寿太郎の出身地で、小村記念館が設置されている。
