A former town in Abu District in the Tama River basin in northern Yamaguchi Prefecture. The town's main fishing port is Esaki, which is served by the Sanin Main Line. Yellowtail and sea bream farming is popular here. Rice, chestnuts, peaches, and pears are also produced here. The coast is part of the Kita-Nagato Coast Quasi-National Park. In March 2005, the town was incorporated into Hagi City along with the towns of Susa, Asahi, Fukuei, Kawakami, and Mutsumi in Abu District. Area: 78.21 km2. Population: 3,665 (2003).
