Rolling - Rolling

Japanese: 巻向 - まきむく
Rolling - Rolling
Also written as Makimuka. A place name referring to the area in the southeastern part of the Nara Basin, northwest of Mt. Miwa. It corresponds to the former Makimuka village, which includes the current Makinouchi and Anashi areas of Sakurai City. The Nihon Shoki states that Emperor Suinin's Tamaki Palace and Emperor Keikō's Hishiro Palace were built here. Makimukayama in the east and the Makimuka River (formerly the Anashi River), which flows southwest and joins the Hatsuse River, have been known as places that have been frequently written about in poetry since the Manyo period. There are many noteworthy ruins in this area, including a group of ancient tombs that are thought to have been built during the early period of the ancient tombs.
