A leading European manufacturer of comprehensive photography (photographic film, cameras, etc.). Its predecessors were the German company Agfa (named after the initials of Aktiengesellschaft für Anilinfabrikation (dye factory)), a pioneer in color film technology founded in 1867, and the Belgian company Gevaert Photo Manufacturing Co., Ltd., founded in 1894. In 1964, the two companies merged to form Agfa-Gevaert (West Germany), headquartered in Leverkusen, and Agfa-Gevaert (Belgium), headquartered in Antwerp.
