A port city on the Kattegat Strait in the northern part of the Jutland Peninsula in Denmark. It is the largest city in North Jutland, occupying the northern side of Leem Bay, with a population of 25,000 (1990). Until 1818 it was called Fladstrand. A port built by the state in 1805, it is a thriving shipbuilding and seafood processing industry. Currently, it is the ferry port to Røsø, Larvik, and Oslo in Norway, and Gothenburg in Sweden, and with the closure of the railway to Skagen, it is the northernmost terminus of the national railway on the east coast of the Jutland Peninsula. デンマークのユトランド半島北部,カテガット海峡に臨む港湾都市。リーム湾の北側を占める北ユラン島(北ユトランド島)最大の都市で,人口2万5000(1990)。1818年までフラーズストランFladstrandと呼ばれた。1805年以来国家によって築港され,造船業,海産物加工業が盛んである。現在,ノルウェーのレーセー,ラールビク,オスロ,スウェーデンのイェーテボリへのフェリー港であり,スカーゲンへの鉄道の廃線に伴いユトランド半島東岸の国鉄の最北の終着駅となっている。
