A pebble tool made by chipping off a part of one side of a rounded or angular pebble to create a blade. There are two basic types of pebble tools: one-sided and two-sided. The former are called choppers and the latter chopping tools. They are found in the lowest layers of the Olduvai site in East Africa, and make up the majority of Early and Middle Paleolithic stone tools in East and Southeast Asia. However, in some areas, this tradition can also be seen in the Neolithic period.
