A heat-resistant container used for high-temperature processing or reactions, such as roasting, igniting, or melting a substance. They are made of porcelain, quartz, graphite, or various metals (iron, nickel, silver, platinum, etc.). Porcelain crucibles are most commonly used in laboratories, while platinum crucibles are used for quantitative analysis that requires precision. Specialized crucibles include the Gooch crucible, which is used for filtering, and the Rosen crucible, which heats precipitates in a specific gas flow. Industrial crucibles are used for melting metals and glass, and are made of graphite, clay, and iron.

物質を焙焼(ばいしょう)，強熱，融解するなど高温処理や高温反応に用いられる耐熱性容器。磁製，石英製，黒鉛製あるいは各種金属（鉄，ニッケル，銀，白金など）製のものがある。磁製るつぼは実験室で最も普通に用いられ，白金るつぼは精密を要する定量分析などで使われる。特殊なものに濾過(ろか)用のグーチるつぼや，沈殿を特定のガス流の中で熱するローゼるつぼなどもある。工業用るつぼは金属・ガラスの溶融などに用い，黒鉛製，粘土製のほか鉄製なども使われる。
