This mountain is located in the northeastern part of Wakayama Prefecture, on the border between the Ryujin Village area of Tanabe City and Totsukawa Village, Yoshino County, Nara Prefecture. It is 1,372 meters above sea level. It was once considered the highest peak in Wakayama Prefecture, but a resurvey announced in 2000 determined that the neighboring Ryujindake (1,382 meters) to the east was the highest peak. It is the source of the Hidaka River. It is said that the mountain's name comes from the legend that Taira no Koremori, who was defeated in the Battle of Yashima, fled to this area and burned a goma fire to divine his life, but it is also named as a training ground for Shugendo (mountain asceticism) as it is a continuation of the peaks from Mount Koya and is close to Mount Omine. The southwest foot of the mountain is included in the Koya-Ryujin Quasi-National Park and is a forest park. The skyline from Mount Koya to Ryujin Onsen runs through it.
