Agricultural education as vocational education includes fields such as agriculture, forestry, sericulture, animal husbandry, and horticulture. In Japan, the first agricultural education was established in 1872 (Meiji 5) at the Hokkaido Development Agency Provisional School, which was established in Tokyo for the purpose of developing Hokkaido. The school was reorganized as Sapporo Agricultural College in 1876 (the predecessor of the Faculty of Agriculture at Hokkaido University) and was taught by WS Clark.
