Born: 1502. Padua [Died] 1542. Italian comic playwright from Padua. His real name was Angelo Beolco. He was known by the nickname Luzzante. He wrote poetry in the style of Petrarchan early on, and performed in theater with his young aristocratic friends. He wrote in the Paduan dialect, taking up the crude and sensual love and cunning of peasants from a perspective full of human empathy.
