Ruiyoushouma - Ruiyoushouma

Japanese: ルイヨウショウマ - るいようしょうま

A perennial plant of the Ranunculaceae family that grows in deep mountain forests (illustration). It was named after its leaves, which resemble those of Cimicifuga japonica (Cimicifuga sarashi). It has a well-developed rhizome, and the stem is 40-70 cm tall, unbranched, and bears 2-3 large stem leaves. There are no basal leaves at the base of the stem, but there are several large scales. The stem leaves are 2-4 times trifoliate and compound, with leaflets ovate or narrowly ovate, sometimes divided into 3 lobes, and coarsely serrated. In May and June, short racemes appear at the ends of the stems, and densely packed white flowers are produced. The sepals are white and petal-like, but fall off quickly.

深山の林のなかに生えるキンポウゲ科の多年草（イラスト）。葉がショウマ(サラシナショウマ)に似るところからつけられた。よく発達した根茎があり，茎は高さ40～70cm，分枝せず，2～3枚の大きな茎葉をつける。茎の基部に根生葉はなく，数枚の大きな鱗片がある。茎葉は2～4回3出複葉で，小葉は卵形ないし狭卵形，ときに3裂し，あらい鋸歯がある。5～6月，茎の先に短い総状花序を出し，白い花を密につける。萼片は白く花弁状であるが，早く落ちる。
