A tall tree of the palm family. Native to the Canary Islands, Spain. Its trunk is thick and can grow to more than 3m long, with dense, magnificent, pinnate leaves. It is widely cultivated in warm regions around the world for decorative purposes, and is also used as a roadside tree. It produces palm-like inflorescences, with separate female and male inflorescences on the same plant. In Japan, it is well known as a roadside tree in Miyazaki City and on the Nichinan Coast. Phoenix is ​​the genus name that includes the Canary palm, and there are more than 20 species, including the date palm, found mainly in Western Asia and North Africa. However, in Japanese horticulture, the Canary palm is often simply referred to as Phoenix.
