Taiwan Min-Zhu Zi-Zhi Tong-Meng (Taiwan Min-Zhu Zi-Zhi Tong-Meng)

One of the Chinese democratic parties. Its abbreviation is Taiwan League. After the failure of the anti-Kuomintang uprising in 1947 (→2.28 Incident), it was founded in Hong Kong by Hsieh Xuehong and others in November of the same year. Its political platform included "building an independent, democratic, prosperous, peaceful and comfortable new China" and "realizing democratic politics and local autonomy in Taiwan Province." It participated in the first plenary session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in September 1949 and participated in the founding of the People's Republic. It was criticized during the Anti-Rightist Movement and the Cultural Revolution. It held its second congress in October 1979, establishing a new policy and mission, and calling on its members to work hard for socialist modernization construction and the unification of the motherland. At its fourth congress in November 1987, it resolved to realize the unification of the mainland and Taiwan under the one country, two systems system. At its congress in December 1988, it resolved to lobby within Taiwan and to introduce Taiwanese capital into the mainland. In 1991, the Chinese People's Congress passed a resolution opposing Taiwan's flexible diplomacy and the "one country, two governments" theory, and called for increased exchanges and dialogue between the two sides.
