One of the facial muscles that surrounds the palpebral fissure and closes the eyelids. It originates from the ligament and bone near the medial canthus and connects the upper and lower muscle bundles on the outside of the lateral canthus. It is innervated by the facial nerve. 顔面の表情筋の一つで,眼裂の周囲を輪状に取囲み,眼瞼を閉じさせる働きをする筋肉。内眼角付近の靭帯と骨部から起り,外眼角の外側で上下の筋束が連絡する。顔面神経に支配される。なお,眼瞼を開くのは眼瞼挙筋の働きによる。
