A form of work in which livestock are continuously grazed in the forest using the understory vegetation as feed while utilizing forest trees for silvicultural purposes. It is also called mixed pasture forestry. In a broader sense, it can also include forests where undergrowth is periodically cut for feed without grazing. This work method has been practiced in various parts of the world, and is also practiced in Japan, such as in the Chugoku Mountains, where attempts have been made to use bamboo grass as feed in forests with a lot of bamboo grass. Recently, under conditions such as the increasing demand for livestock products, the progress of artificial forestry, and the difficulty of creating grassland in mountainous areas, it is being considered as one of the intensive forms of use of mountainous areas.
