1854‐1907
A Korean politician from Hamgyong Province during the late Yi Dynasty. During the Imo Rebellion in 1882, he helped Empress Min escape to Chungju, earning the trust of King Gojong. He served as a local official in key locations in northern Korea, including as the governor of the Jianggye Province and the superintendent of mining in the northwest, until the early 1890s. In 1888, he was exiled to Ji Island in Jeolla Province for a period of time for illegal execution during his term of office. In 1897, he became the chief of the Imperial Court and was responsible for issuing currency. At the same time, as a high-ranking official in the Palace Bureau, he brought railway planning, ginseng monopoly, and mining affairs under his jurisdiction, expanding the royal finances.

朝鮮,李朝末期の政治家。咸鏡道出身。1882年の壬午軍乱時に閔妃(びんひ)の忠州逃避行を助けて高宗の信任を得,90年代初めにかけて江界府使兼西北鉱務監理など北部朝鮮の要地の地方官を歴任した。1888年には在任中の不法誅求の罪で一時期,全羅道智島に流配された。97年典圜(てんえん)局長となり貨幣発行にあたる一方,宮内府の高官として鉄道計画,人参専売,鉱山の事務を管轄下に入れ,皇室財政の拡張を実現した。
