Spiral flower - Spiral flower
An annual or semi-shrub of the Tilia family found in fields and roadsides in Japan, reaching a height of 30-100 cm (illustration). Branches are sparsely hairy along one side. Leaves are alternate, ovate or narrowly ovate, membranous, 4-13 cm long, slenderly pointed at the tip, slightly rounded at the base, with 3-5 palmate veins, serrated margins, and scattered simple hairs on both sides. Stipules are narrowly triangular, 3-5 mm long. Axillary cymes have short stalks and produce several yellow flowers about 2 cm in diameter.

日本の畑地や路傍に見られるシナノキ科の一年草または半低木で,高さ30~100cmに達する(イラスト)。枝の一側に沿ってまばらに柔毛がある。葉は互生し,卵形ないし狭卵形,膜質で,長さ4~13cm,先端は細長くとがり,基部はやや円形,3ないし5本の掌状に出る脈があり,ふちに鋸歯があり,両面に単毛を散生する。托葉は狭三角形で長さ3~5mm。腋生(えきせい)の集散花序は短い梗を有し,径2cmくらいで黄色の花を数個つける。
