It is a basic switched-type service for recording and communication that uses a terminal device called a teleprinter of globally standardized standard, and can in principle communicate with any of the approximately one million terminals in use around the world at a standardized transmission speed of 50 baud per minute (66 words/min). From Japan, it is possible to communicate with 200 points around the world through international lines. In Japan, it can be used by subscribing directly to KDD (International Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) terminals (5-unit international standard), as well as by subscribing to Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation's domestic subscriber telegraph terminals (6-unit katakana type) that have been registered for international use.
