Prince Oshisakahikohito - Prince Oshisakahikohito

Prince Oshisakahikohito - Prince Oshisakahikohito
Year of birth: Unknown
A powerful member of the royal family in the latter half of the 6th century. Son of Emperor Bidatsu. Father of Prince Tamura (later Emperor Jomei). As he was the grandfather of both Emperor Tenchi and Emperor Tenmu, he was later called "the great elder of the imperial ancestors." He lived in Suiha Palace, which is thought to have been located in Kido-go, Hirose County, Yamato Province (Koryo-cho, Nara Prefecture). His mother, Hirohime (daughter of Prince Okinaga-no-Matate), lived in Oshisaka Palace (Sakurai City), which was run by her family, the Okinaga clan, and the prince also spent his childhood there, so it seems likely that he inherited the Oshisakabe (Oshobe), a subordinate group that served the palace. In 587, when the emperor fell ill and the selection of the next emperor began, the prince, along with his half-brother Prince Takeda, was seen as a strong candidate for the throne. His movements during the war to pursue Mononobe no Moriya after Yomei's death are unknown, and there is a theory that he was assassinated by order of Soga no Umako in the midst of this chaos. The Engishiki states that the tomb is the tomb of Nariage in Hirose County, but the prevailing theory is that it is the tomb of Makino Tomb (Koryo-cho, Nara Prefecture), a large circular tomb with a diameter of about 60 meters and a horizontal stone chamber with a total length of 17 meters, located in the Umami Tomb Group.
