Ryokami [village] - Ryokami

Japanese: 両神[村] - りょうかみ

A village in Chichibu County, western Saitama Prefecture. Population 3,177 (1995). It is located in the Chichibu Mountains, with Mt. Ryokami (1,724m) towering at its western edge. Settlements are scattered along the valleys of the Susuki River and Komori River, which flow eastward. Most of the village area is forest. In addition to cultivating konjac yam and shiitake mushrooms, grapes are also grown and wine is brewed. Mt. Ryokami and Mt. Ontake (1,080m) are visited by many hikers, and there are wild colonies of amur adonis in Komori and Susuki. Since the 1960s, there has been a continuous outflow of population, and the area has been designated a depopulated area.

埼玉県西部，秩父郡の村。人口3177(1995)。秩父山地の山間にあり，西端に両神山(1724m)がそびえる。東流する薄（すすき）川，小森川の谷沿いに集落が点在する。村域の大部分は山林である。コンニャクイモ，シイタケの栽培に加え，ブドウ栽培も行われ，ブドウ酒を醸造する。両神山や御岳山(1080m)には多くの登山客が訪れ，小森や薄にはフクジュソウの野生群落がある。1960年代以降人口流出が続き，過疎地域の指定を受けている。
