A high peak in the Andes in central Ecuador, South America. It is the highest peak in the country and is a symbol of the country. It is 6,310 meters above sea level. It is a conical volcano, located just below the equator, but its summit is covered with glaciers. It was first climbed by Whymper and others in 1880.
