An evergreen wisteria of the family Moraceae (APG classification: Moraceae). The trunk is brown and well-branched, and it puts out adventitious roots to climb stones and trees. The stipules are membranous and about 5 mm long. The leaves are alternate, egg-oblong, stalked, long and sharply pointed, with a rounded base, entire, leathery, and gray-white underside. Dioecious. The inflorescence is urn-shaped, with 1-2 fig-like inflorescences about 1 cm in diameter at the side of the leaf. It is almost sessile, with bracts at the base, and small male, female, and gall flowers inside, and ripens to a purple-black color. It grows on stone walls and cliffs, and is distributed in Niigata, Fukushima Prefecture and west of Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Okinawa, the southern part of the Korean Peninsula, Taiwan, and China.
