Kyogokuin Temple

A member of the imperial family in the mid-Kamakura period. Empress of Emperor Kameyama. Her name was Fujiwara no Takushi. Her father was Minister of the Left, Toin Saneo, and her mother was Eishi, a Junior Second Rank girl and daughter of Hoin Koshin. In Bun'o 1 (1260), she served as Nyogodai (a woman who temporarily takes the place of the Empress) at Emperor Kameyama's Daijo-e purification ceremony, and subsequently became Nyogo. In Kocho 1 (1261), she became Chugu, and in the same year, Empress. Mother of Emperor Go-Uda. On the day of her death, she was given the posthumous title of Kyogoku-in.

鎌倉中期の皇族。亀山天皇の皇后。名は藤原佶子。父は左大臣洞院実雄,母は法印公審の娘の従二位栄子。文応1(1260)年,亀山天皇の大嘗会御禊に女御代(臨時に女御の代わりをする女性)として奉仕,次いで女御となる。弘長1(1261)年中宮となり,同年皇后。後宇多天皇の母。没した日に京極院の院号宣下。
