Born: 1756, 32nd year of King Yeongjo's reign. Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do [Death] King Sunjo 1 (1801) The first Christian in Korea. He accompanied his father, Dong-yu Yi, who was part of the Korean king's envoy to Beijing, to Beijing, where he was baptized under the name of Peter by the Franciscan priest Gobea, the Bishop of Beijing, and introduced Christianity to Korea. Due to incomplete knowledge, they established their own hierarchy, and Seong-hoon performed the liturgy as one of the priests, but later, after receiving news from Beijing, he realized that this was wrong and stopped. Furthermore, he left the church because the Bishop of Beijing refused to allow ancestor veneration. The Christianity he brought to Korea was persecuted within 10 years of his baptism, but it is said that he gained 4,000 followers (→Christianity in Korea).
