A Buddhist Shinto book. Written in 1324 by Sonkaku (1290-1373), the eldest son of Kakunyo, the third-generation grandson of Shinran. 2 volumes. In the Kamakura period, this book discusses Shinto from the standpoint of Jodo Shinshu, in contrast to the Shinto-Buddhist syncretism preached by the Tendai and Shingon sects. It is a kind of defensive work against the general suspicion that Shinshu, which is devoted to Amida, is incompatible with the veneration of Shinto gods, and takes the position that Buddha is the original form of Shinmei, and Shinmei is the manifestation of Buddha. Therefore, it accepts the veneration of Shinto gods as quorum shrines, that is, shrines that are manifestations of Buddha, but does not accept jitsusha, that is, shrines that are not manifestations. However, it ultimately attributes all veneration to the faith in Amida, the only Buddha, who is the root of all.
