A wart is a small, benign skin tumor that is generally hemispherical and has a hard, rough surface. It includes those caused by viral infections and those caused by aging skin. Medically, it is called a verruca.

Warts caused by viruses are caused by infection with the human papillomavirus, which belongs to the Papovaviridae family, and are clinically classified into the following four types: (1) Common warts (verruca vulgaris): These are found mainly on the hands and feet of children and have a highly keratinized, hard surface.

　ウイルスによっておこるいぼは，パポーバウイルス科に属するヒト乳頭腫ウイルスの感染によるものであるが，臨床的には以下の4種類に分類される。(1)尋常性疣贅verruca vulgaris　主として小児の手足にみられ，表面の角化がつよく硬い。
