Shiogamagiku (Pedicularis resupinata; lousewort)

A perennial plant of the Scrophulariaceae family, widely distributed in the temperate zone of eastern Asia. It grows in sunny mountain grasslands. It grows to a height of about 30-60 cm. The leaves are alternate or opposite, narrowly ovate, 4-9 cm long with pointed tips, and have coarse, deep sawtooth edges. From August to October, reddish purple flowers bloom among small overlapping bracts at the top of the stem. The corolla is lip-shaped, about 2 cm long, and twisted to one side. In the high mountains of Japan, other species of the same genus include Miyamashiogama, Yotsubashiogama (Four-leaf Shiogama), and Takaneshiogama, but Shiogamagama is not found at high altitudes.
