A Chinese poet of the mid-Edo period. His given name was Jishu, his pen name was Rokujo, and his pen names were Hakuro and Rokujoan. He was born to a doctor, Naemura Kaidō, in Omihachiman (Shiga Prefecture). He became a Tendai Buddhist monk at the age of 11, and as he grew older he was respected as a learned monk, spending his life commuting between Kyoto and Edo. As a Chinese poet, he was not satisfied with the classical literary style of the Ogyu Sorai school that was all the rage at the time, and instead showed a style that frankly expressed his true feelings, becoming a pioneer of the innovation in poetry in the late Edo period. He wrote three volumes of "Rokujoan Shisho" (1783-1823) and two volumes of "Katsugenshiwa" (1787-1804).
