Hot spring [town] - Onsen

Japanese: 温泉[町] - おんせん

A former town in Mikata County in northern Hyogo Prefecture. National Route 9 passes through the main settlement of Yumura Onsen (simple hot spring, 57-97°C) along the Haruki River. The town is used for forced cultivation using the heat from the hot springs, for hatching chicken eggs, and for cultivating carp, and produces Arayu tofu. Vegetables and fruit are also grown, and horticulture is also practiced. Pear cultivation and Tajima cattle breeding are popular in the surrounding areas. Many people work as brewers in the Nada region. There are ski resorts such as Oginosen. In October 2005, the town merged with Hamasaka Town in Mikata County to become Shinonsen Town in Mikata County. Area is 138.02 ^km2 . Population 7,461 (2003).

兵庫県北部，美方(みかた)郡の旧町。国道９号線が通じる主集落は春木川に沿う湯村温泉（単純泉，57〜97℃）で，温泉熱利用の促成栽培，鶏卵の孵化(ふか)，コイ養殖を行い，荒湯豆腐を産する。野菜・果樹の栽培，園芸も行う。周辺部ではナシ栽培，但馬(たじま)牛飼育が盛ん。灘地方へ杜氏として出稼(でかせぎ)する者も多い。扇ノ山(おうぎのせん)などのスキー場がある。2005年10月美方郡浜坂町と合併し町制，美方郡新温泉町となる。138.02km²。7461人（2003）。
