Japanese: 藤枝[市] - ふじえだ

A city in southern Shizuoka Prefecture, occupying the mountainous region upstream of the Seto River and the plains on the left bank of the Oi River. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It is centered around the Fujieda district, which was a post town and castle town on the Tokaido Highway, and the Aoshima district, which developed as a town in front of Fujieda Station on the Tokaido Main Line. It is a production and distribution center for tea and mandarin oranges, and is known for its thriving greenhouse horticulture of tomatoes, strawberries, and other crops. Industries such as chemicals, plastic products, and food are also carried out. Large housing complexes have been built, resulting in a rapid population growth, and there are many commuters to Shizuoka City and other areas. The Shin-Tomei Expressway runs through the city. 静岡県南部，瀬戸川上流の山地と大井川左岸の平野を占める市。1954年市制。東海道の宿場町，城下町であった藤枝地区，東海道本線藤枝駅の駅前町として発達した青島地区が中心。茶，ミカンの産地・集散地で，トマト・イチゴなどの施設園芸が盛ん。化学，プラスチック製品，食品などの工業も行われる。大規模な住宅団地が建設されて人口が急増し，静岡市などへの通勤者が多い。新東名高速道路が通じる。2009年１月志太郡岡部町を編入。194.06km²。14万2151人（2010）。
