Fujieda [city] - Fujieda

Japanese: 藤枝[市] - ふじえだ
Fujieda [city] - Fujieda
A city in southern Shizuoka Prefecture, occupying the mountainous region upstream of the Seto River and the plains on the left bank of the Oi River. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It is centered around the Fujieda district, which was a post town and castle town on the Tokaido Highway, and the Aoshima district, which developed as a town in front of Fujieda Station on the Tokaido Main Line. It is a production and distribution center for tea and mandarin oranges, and is known for its thriving greenhouse horticulture of tomatoes, strawberries, and other crops. Industries such as chemicals, plastic products, and food are also carried out. Large housing complexes have been built, resulting in a rapid population growth, and there are many commuters to Shizuoka City and other areas. The Shin-Tomei Expressway runs through the city. In January 2009, Okabe Town in Shida County was incorporated. Area: 194.06 km2 . Population: 142,151 (2010).
