A battle that took place in Liegnitz (now Legnica, Poland) in southwestern Silesia. (1) In 1241, the Mongol army led by Batu, nephew of Genghis Khan, fought against the German-Polish allied army led by Henry II, Duke of Silesia. Henry was defeated, and the Mongol army also suffered heavy losses and retreated to the southeast. Also known as the Battle of Wahlstatt.
