Also called ra (ras). This is a noise heard with a stethoscope when secretions or exudates are present in the trachea, bronchi, or alveoli. It appears in various respiratory diseases. Depending on its nature, it is broadly divided into dry rasping (whistle, snoring, etc.) which occurs in bronchitis and bronchial asthma, and wet rasping (bubbles, crepitus) which occurs in acute pneumonia and pulmonary edema.
