Baekje Clan - Kudarauji

A clan of immigrants from Baekje in ancient Japan. The time of their arrival is uncertain, but most were around the time of Baekje's downfall in the late 7th century. In the narrow sense, the Baekje clan includes those with the surnames Kun (Kimi) and Ren, and those without surnames, and many of them became lower-ranking government officials during the Nara period. The Yo clan and Kimimura clan, descended from the royal family of Baekje, called themselves Baekje ason from the Nara period onwards. The Yo clan includes Baekje Hasei, an official and painter, from the early 9th century. Zenko (Zenko), the son of Baekje King Uija, who arrived around the time of the fall of the kingdom during the Shumei period, was given the surname of Baekje king in 693 (7th year of the Jitō era). Many Baekje royals were highly valued as managers of the Tohoku region, and Baekje Keibok, as the governor of Mutsu in 749 (1st year of Tenpyō-shōhō), presented the gold used to gild the Vairocana Buddha at Todaiji Temple to the imperial court.

古代日本における百済出身の渡来氏族。渡来時期は一定しないが，ほとんど7世紀後半の百済滅亡前後であろう。狭義の百済氏は公(君)･連姓や姓のないものなどがあり，奈良時代下級官人になるものが多い。百済王族より出る余氏や鬼室氏は奈良時代以降百済朝臣を称した。余氏系には9世紀初，官人･画家百済河成がいる。また滅亡前の舒明朝ごろ渡来した百済義慈王の子禅広(善光)は693年(持統7)百済王の姓を与えられた。百済王氏は多く東北経営の担い手として重用され，百済敬福は749年(天平勝宝1)陸奥守として東大寺盧遮那仏（るしやなぶつ）鍍金用の黄金を朝廷に献じた。
