A regional brand of Ehime prefecture, Shikoku region.
These clay tiles are manufactured in Kikuma-cho, Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, using techniques and methods originating from that town. Its production is said to have begun during the Kamakura period, during the Koan era (1278-1288), under the rule of the powerful Kono clan, and has a history of approximately 750 years. During the Edo period, they developed with the encouragement of the Matsuyama Domain. They are sturdy, durable, and cold-resistant, and are characterized by their distinctive oxidized silver color and luster. They are indispensable for expressing the architectural beauty of high-end Japanese-style homes and shrines and temples. They are a traditional specialty of Ehime Prefecture. In February 2007, they were registered as a regional collective trademark with the Japan Patent Office. The trademark registration number is No. 5023936. The owners of the regional collective trademark are the Kikuma-cho Ceramics Cooperative and the Kikuma Tile Industry Cooperative.

愛媛県今治市菊間町に由来する技や製法により菊間町で製造された粘土瓦。起源は鎌倉時代の弘安年間(1278年〜1288年)、豪族・河野氏の支配下で製造が始まったとされ、約750年の歴史をもつ。江戸時代に松山藩の奨励によって発展した。堅牢で耐久性・耐寒性ともにすぐれ、いぶし銀の特有の色と艶が特徴。高級和風住宅や神社仏閣の建築美を表現する際には欠かせない瓦である。愛媛県伝統的特産品。2007(平成19)年2月、特許庁の地域団体商標に登録された。商標登録番号は第5023936号。地域団体商標の権利者は、菊間町窯業協同組合・菊間瓦工業協同組合。
