Nikolai Konstantinovich Russel'‐Sudzilovskii

A Russian Narodnik revolutionary who came to Japan. Son of a nobleman from Mogilev in Belarus. He participated in the "Into the People" movement, escaped arrest, and went into exile in the fall of 1874. He qualified as a doctor in Romania, assisted Bulgarian nationalists, and was present at the birth of the Romanian socialist movement. He was arrested and deported in 1881, and traveled through eastern Romania before moving to the United States in 1887 with his second wife, Leocazia. He moved to Hawaii in 1892, and ran in the first territorial senate election after Hawaii was annexed by the United States, winning and serving as Senate President.

日本に来たロシアのナロードニキ革命家。白ロシアのモギリョフの貴族の子。〈人民の中へ〉運動に参加し，逮捕を逃れて1874年秋に亡命した。ルーマニアで医師の資格をとり，ブルガリア民族主義者を助け，ルーマニア社会主義運動の誕生に立ち会った。81年逮捕されて国外追放になり，東ルーメリアを経て，87年第2の妻レオカジアとともにアメリカへ渡った。92年からハワイに移り，ハワイがアメリカに併合されたのちの最初の準州上院議員選挙に出て当選，上院議長をつとめた。
