Mugwort (艾∥蓬) - Mugwort (English spelling) Artemisia

Mugwort (艾∥蓬) - Mugwort (English spelling) Artemisia
A general term for plants of the Artemisia genus of the Asteraceae family. In spring, mugwort (Kazuzaki mugwort) A. princeps Pamp. is the first plant to emerge green among the dead grass in the barren land. Young seedlings are picked, boiled, and put into mochi to make kusamochi, and when put into dumplings, mugwort dango (kusa dango) is made. It has a unique flavor and is a nostalgic symbol of spring. In the past, chickweed was used instead of mugwort. In summer, when the leaves are lush, the leaves are cut, dried, pounded in a mortar, and the fluff collected is called moxa, which is used as a material for moxibustion.
