Fukusuke Nakamura

Japanese: 中村福助 - なかむらふくすけ

Kabuki actor. (1) The first Nakamura Shikan IV's former name. The son of Nakamura Tomishiro, a disciple of Nakamura Tomijuro II, was adopted by Nakamura Utaemon IV, and changed his name to Fukusuke in 1839 (Tenpo 10). He held the name until 1860 (Man'en 1). (2) The second Nakamura (?-1867 (Keio 3)) The younger brother of the first Nakamura, held the name from 1861 (Bunkyu 1) to 1867 (Keio 3). He was good-looking and best at Japanese court art. After this, in 1868, the third Nakamura Shikan took the name at the same time in both the eastern and western parts of Japan, so that there was Fukusuke of the Narikoma-ya lineage, which was the former name of Nakamura Utaemon or Nakamura Shikan, and Fukusuke of the Takasago-ya lineage, which was the former name of Nakamura Baigyoku.

歌舞伎俳優。(1)初世　4世中村芝翫の前名。2世中村富十郎の門弟中村富四郎の子が，中村玉太郎，政之助を経て，4世中村歌右衛門の養子となり，1839年(天保10)に福助と改名。60年(万延1)まで名のった。(2)2世(？‐1867(慶応3))　初世の弟が，1861年(文久1)から67年(慶応3)まで名のった。容姿がよく，和事を最も得意とした。　こののち，1868年に東西で同時に3世福助を襲名したため，中村歌右衛門または中村芝翫の前名としての〈成駒屋系〉の福助と，中村梅玉の前名としての〈高砂屋系〉の福助とができた。
