The top of the underside of the forewings has a white marking surrounded by black-brown. The antennae of males are ciliate, while those of females are thread-like and hairless. They are found throughout southern Europe, Africa, and almost all of Asia, and in Japan they are commonly found throughout the country, from Hokkaido to Yakushima.
