Kaisho (English spelling) kuài shū

Japanese: 快書 - かいしょ（英語表記）kuài shū

A narrative piece from Beijing, China. It is so named because the speed increases as it is sung. It consists of eight verses of a "psalm" followed by a "note" that gives the gist of the story, and consists of three roughly set melodies: the Spring Cloud Ban (→ Running Water Ban) → Renju-style. However, there are fairly long words and narration in between. Accompanied by a snakeskin string, the performer uses plenty of gestures, sometimes holding an octagonal drum, and is characterized by his red-faced, violent and strained narration, making it suitable for pieces that include battle scenes. Representative pieces include "Dong Tian Gong," "Wu Song Da Hu," and "Long Ban Po." [Yoshikawa Yoshikazu]

中国，北京の語り物。歌うにつれ速度が増すのでこうよぶ。〈詩篇〉8句に話の大意を述べる〈註頭〉が続き，春雲板(→流水板)→連珠調とほぼ定型旋律3部より成る。ただしこの間にかなり長いコトバと地が入る。蛇皮線を伴奏に，演者はジェスチャーたっぷりに，ときに八角鼓をもち，顔を真っ赤にして荒々しく力んで語るのを特徴とし，戦闘場面を含む演目に適す。《閙（どう）天宮》《武松打虎》《長板坡》等が代表作。【吉川良和】
