Born: April 11, 1905, Budapest [Died] December 3, 1937. Balatonsársó Hungarian poet. After his father disappeared, he was raised by his mother, a washerwoman, and later received a university education with the support of his brother-in-law, but was expelled due to ideological issues. He suffered from poverty and illness, and the mental anguish caused by his experience of joining and then leaving the Communist Party compounded, leading him to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train. His lyric poetry is a heartbreaking cry for sympathy and love for the poor, and is considered the pinnacle of 20th century Hungarian literature. His collections of poems include A szépség koldusa (1922), Nincsen apám se anyám (29), and Külvárosi éj (32).
