[Died] December 3, 1937. Balatonsársó Hungarian poet. After his father disappeared, he was raised by his mother, a washerwoman, and later received a university education with the support of his brother-in-law, but was expelled due to ideological issues. He suffered from poverty and illness, and the mental anguish caused by his experience of joining and then leaving the Communist Party compounded, leading him to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train. His lyric poetry is a heartbreaking cry for sympathy and love for the poor, and is considered the pinnacle of 20th century Hungarian literature. His collections of poems include A szépség koldusa (1922), Nincsen apám se anyám (29), and Külvárosi éj (32).

ハンガリーの詩人。父親の蒸発により，洗濯女の母親の手で育ち，のち義兄の援助で大学教育を受けたが，思想問題で退学となった。貧窮と病気に苦しめられ，さらに共産党への入党と脱党の体験からくる精神的苦悩が重なり，鉄道自殺によって生涯を終えた。その抒情詩は，貧しい人々に対する共感と愛情を求める悲痛な叫びであり，20世紀ハンガリー文学の最高峰とされている。詩集『美の乞食』A szépség koldusa (1922) ，『父も母もなく』 Nincsen apám se anyám (29) ，『裏町の夜』 Külvárosi éj (32) がある。
